Things To Do On Lido Beach Florida

There’s plenty of things to do on Lido Beach Florida. You can take your pick. Choose fishing or sailing, golf, shop on St. Armands Circle or just hang out on the gorgeous beach.

Lido Key Sarasota has 3 fabulous beaches: North Lido Beach, Lido Key Public Beach, and South Lido Park. Of the three, only Lido Key Public Beach is a good swimming beach with gentle currents and lifeguards on duty.

Lido Beach

Lido Beach

North Lido Beach is great for taking a leisurely stroll on a very secluded beach and is the closest to St. Armand’s Circle, a treasure for shopping and dining.

North Lido Beach

South Lido Park is a wonderful spot for folks who want to enjoy sunbathing, kayaking through the mangroves, cooking out on the grills and letting the kids play on the playground equipment.

Where Is Lido Beach Florida

Lido Key is only a short drive from Sarasota where there is a wealth of cultural activities. It is a barrier island off Sarasota.  It is connected to the mainland by John Ringling Causeway.  You can take pleasure in the Sarasota Ballet, enjoy the opera at the Sarasota Opera House, discover the Ringling Museum and enjoy a show at the Van Wetzel Performing Arts Center.

Shopping and dining on elegant St. Armand’s Circle on Lido Key is a treat with its European market style. There are many galleries, wonderful boutiques, sophisticated restaurants, many with outdoor seating and a great nightlife, all on the circle.

While visiting Lido Key, make sure to take a little time away from the beach, and spend an afternoon at St. Armand’s. Have lunch in one of the great restaurants – my favorite is the Columbia Restaurant and I love browsing through the shops.

There are wonderful resorts, condos and single family homes available for vacation rentals. If you would be interested in renting a vacation spot or purchasing a vacation home, I’d love to help.

North Lido Beach

North Lido Beach

North Lido Beach

North Lido Beach is a stone’s throw from St. Armands, just off John Ringling Blvd. This beach is the most private of the three beaches on Lido Key.  The currents here can be very swift and there are no lifeguards.

Lido Key Public Beach

Lido Key Beach

Lido Key Beach

Lido Key Beach is my personal favorite of the three beaches.  It is located approximately 1/2 mile southwest of North Lido Beach on Ben Franklin Drive.  This photo was taken from a room at the Lido Key Resort.  It’s a great place to stay.  The area has several amenities that make it especially attractive.

  • Concession stand
  • Restrooms
  • Playground equipment
  • Meeting Room
  • Gift Shop
  • Handicapped Accessible Observation Deck
  • Beach Chair and Umbrella Rentals
  • Heated Swimming Pool
  • Large paved parking lot

There are no shaded picnic areas here, other than the covered tables at the concession stand.

There are lots of areas between the sandy beach and parking lot that has sea oats and sea grapes growing to protect against erosion.

South Lido Park

South Lido Beach

South Lido Beach

South Lido Park is located at the southernmost tip of Lido Key on Ben Franklin Drive.  Here you can see the skyline of downtown Sarasota and the Gulf of Mexico.

It is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico, Big Pass, Brushy Bayou and Sarasota Bay.

The amenities include:

  • Restroom Facilities
  • Picnic Tables
  • Playground Equipment
  • Grills for cooking
  • Volleyball Court
  • Nature Trails
  • Canoe Trail
  • A Large Parking Lot

Swimming is not recommended in the pass as the currents are extremely swift.  Even swimming in the Gulf near the Pass can be very dangerous.

Where To Stay

There are several great beach hotels on Lido Key.  They are the Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel, the Holiday Inn Lido Key and the Lido Beach Resort.

Where To Eat

Within walking distance of Lido Key is the fabulous St. Armand’s Circle.  Here you’ll find many great restaurants.  My personal favorite is the Columbia Restaurant, right in the middle of St. Armands.  Don’t miss it!
