Don Pedro Island, Florida, a remote Florida State Park, is part of a group of 4 connected islands. They are: Little Gasparilla, Don Pedro Island, Thornton Key and Knight Island. The gorgeous, seven mile stretch of pristine beaches is nearly deserted.

Located between Little Gasparilla Island and Knight Island, Don Pedro Island State Park is only accessible by boat. Boaters, coming to spend the day by private boat, can tie up at the dock on the bay side of the island.

This beautiful, little island is located 6 miles north of Boca Grande.

You’ll find amenities such as a covered pavillion with charcoal grills for picnics,bathrooms, showers, hiking trails, and great fishing, swimming and sunbathing.

When visiting the Don Pedro Island State Park there are some restrictions. No pets are allowed on the beach, however you can bring Fido to the pavillion. You won’t find any snack bars or vending machines, so make sure you bring some food and lots of water or other drinks. Finally, no alcohol is permitted in the park.

You can only visit by boat, either private of by taking the ferry from Palm Island Transit, Inc. They can be reached at 941-697-8809 and are located at 7092 Placida Road, Placida, FL 33946. The rate for a pedestrian is currently $6.00, but call them to get the latest information. While they do transport cars, only the few people living on the island can do so. You see, there’s no parking lots or other places to park other than private driveways. If you have them, bring some binoculars. On the boat ride, be sure to look for the dolphins, water birds and manatees.

And, don’t forget to bring suntan lotion, bug spray, beach chairs, towels, swim fins and masks, fishing gear and food and drinks, to ensure a perfect trip.

Be prepared to have a very private, quiet and enjoyable day. Don Pedro Island State Park is another magical island on Florida’s West coast.
