To get onto Gasparilla Island and Boca Grande you need to pay a $6.00 toll and cross over two small bridges. As soon as you cross over the second bridge you’re in Boca Grande. The fee is definitely worth paying as this beach is truly a treasure. Spend the day on the beach and don’t miss the South Beach restaurant for lunch. It is located directly on the beach after you go through town. The food is wonderful and after you’ve eaten, you can sit in one of the colorful beach chairs and take in the beautiful scenery.
Be sure to take a quick look at the gorgeous light blue water while you’re on the bridges. It’s breathtaking!
The Village of Boca Grande Florida
In the village of Boca Grande there are no stop lights, no high rises, no fast food and no billboards. There are charming, unique gift shops, boutiques, art galleries and several restaurants, many featuring seafood caught in local waters.
You can walk, take a golf cart or bike anywhere. At the southern end of Boca Grande is Boca Grande Pass, which is world renowned as the Tarpon capital of the world. The Tarpon come here every year to spawn and indulge in feasting on the plentiful fish in Charlotte Harbor to the east.
The land you see across Boca Grande Pass is Cayo Costa Island.
Boca Grande is a genteel retreat for fishermen, the rich and famous or vacationers who want a relaxing getaway in an old Florida, barefoot elegant atmosphere.

Boca Grande Lighthouse
Make sure you go to the end of the island to see the lighthouse. The Boca Grande Lighthouse has quite a history and now houses a very interesting museum documenting the history of the lighthouse and surrounding area.
On your way to the Boca Grande Lighthouse, you’ll pass a couple of beach areas, which are part of Gasparilla Island State Park.
Boca Grande has wooden walkways going above the seagrass and seagrapes to get to the beach. You are very likely to spot a 2-3 ft. Iguana down in the seagrass. They’re quite used to humans, but, please leave them alone.
While you’re on the island, don’t miss a stroll down Banyan Street. There are very old Banyan trees that form a shaded canopy. Travel down Banyan Street until you reach the water.
The homes and condominiums built in recent years are magnificent, but you’ll also see many stately older estates.
Boca Grande Tarpon Fishing
Boca Grande is best known for its sensational fishing. It’s famous for its Tarpon fishing, known as the Silver King of gamefish. Tarpon are caught from April through early July. If you like fishing, definitely get with a local fishing guide and have the most memorable fishing experience of your life.
On the back side of Boca Grande is Charlotte Harbor and Gasparilla Sound, where Snook, Redfish and Trout are in abundance. Fishing these waters, bordered by Mangroves has some of the best light tackle fishing anywhere. A day or half day with a fishing guide will be an unbelievable experience.
