Anna Maria Vacation

A Taste of Old Time Florida

Great! You’re thinking about taking an Anna Maria vacation.  It’s such a great place to unwind.  The City of Anna Maria is located on the northern end of Anna Maria Island in Manatee County. When you arrive, you’ll marvel at the warm, friendly old time Florida feel. It is one square mile with beautiful beaches, a lovely bay side and unpretentious homes.

The Anna Maria City Pier on the bay side, along with the pristine beaches, are the focal points and visitor attractions of this quaint area. The pier extends 710 feet into the bay. Enjoy a day’s fishing off the Pier, and definitely go to the Anna Maria City Pier Restaurant and Gift Shop at the end of the Pier for a wonderful seafood sandwich.

Local Wildlife

With a laid back, casual atmosphere, Anna Maria loves it’s wildlife and friendliness. The entire one square mile of the City is a bird sanctuary, with both shore and water birds, like the pelicans and white egrets shown in the slideshow above. As you stroll the beaches, be prepared to take some photos of the bottlenose dolphins swimming and jumping and manatees slowing moving through the water.

Loggerhead turtles enjoy these beaches as nesting grounds. The residents and visitors alike enjoy protecting “their” turtles.

This city is primarily a residential area, with a sprinkling of restaurants and ice cream shops.

On the Bay side of the island, you’ll find the Bay View Plaza, which overlooks Tampa Bay. There are specialty gift shops, tropical clothing boutiques, a post office and Mama Lo’s Coffee Shop, which boasts a fabulous cup of coffee as well as 40 flavors of wonderful McClain’s homemade ice cream, made locally.

Where To Eat?

You’ll find some excellent waterfront restaurants in the City of Anna Maria. Some of my favorites are the Sandbar Restaurant, located directly on the beach, the Rod & Reel Pier on the Bay, the Anna Maria City Pier Restaurant and Gift Shop, also on the Bay side, and the Waterfront Restaurant.  To learn more about Anna Maria restaurants, please look here.
